Preparation and Testing of Leaflets

Each PIL User Test has highlighted to us the unique areas where improvement in layout or language will benefit the readability of a leaflet. So let us help you prepare a well laid out, user friendly leaflet.

Our service may start with a blank sheet of paper or an existing leaflet. From whichever starting point, we will help you create a document that is written in plain English and clearly laid out according to your house style.

We will prepare and agree a test protocol and arrange for the tests to be carried out using suitable volunteers from around the Home Counties North.

The interviews take place in a private room and are controlled by a qualified nurse. It is customary to carry out three separate tests on the one leaflet. A pilot test using 5 volunteers and then two main tests each requiring 10 new volunteers.

For each leaflet we prepare 12-15 random questions addressing the key messages within a leaflet. The responses are carefully monitored and recorded. These data are then analysed and assessed in interim reports for discussion with our client.

At the conclusion of the test a final report is prepared for submission together with the final Patient Information Leaflet which is always signed off by our client.
